Johnson and Freiberger Lead Preps Past Ogallala

A three hit effort from Logan Freiberger and the pitching of Tee Johnson were just enough Sunday in an 8 to 5 Prep team win over Ogallala. Both players took to the mound. Johnson went 3 plus innings and a strikeout by Freiberger ended the game. At the plate, the Peltz Co had 6 hits with Freiberger’s three leading the way. The Spartans were down 3 to 0 before putting 5 on the board in the top of the third. It was a four frame contest.

Alliance hit first and failed to score in the opening inning. Johnson would record 2 strikeouts in the bottom of the frame but the Adams Insurance used a pair of singles to go up 1 to 0. Freiberger got a hit in the top of the second. Unfortunately he was left on the bases. The Advisors extended their margin in the bottom on the second with 2 more tallies despite 2 more Johnson k’s.

Down 3 to 0 in the top of inning #3, the Preps began their comeback. It started with a hit by Spartan Sonny Hernandez. After Dixon Bair was hit by a pitch, the Peltz Co got on the board after a 2 run double by Jace Jensen. Two knocks by the Spartans-one by Freiberger and one by Quinn Ferguson ensued as the Preps got close. A pair of errors by Ogallala followed that put Alliance up 5 to 3. Adams Insurance was denied any runs in the bottom of the inning and the game went to the fourth with the Spartans ahead 5 to 3.

A couple of insurance runs in the fourth gave the Preps a nice lead. Three walks, another hit by Freiberger, and a miscue by the Advisors made it 7 to 3. Alliance’s Carson Stroud then was hit by pitch for the Prep’s 8th score. Down 5, Ogallala put together a small rally in their last at bat. Adams Insurance used a hit batter and an inside the park homer to get within 3 at 8 to 5 but a strikeout by Freiberger finished the contest. Final Alliance 8 Ogallala 5
