Long time rivals-Alliance and Gering-met Wednesday in Gering. A big fourth inning by the Peltz Co Prep club powered the Spartans past the hosts 11 to 4. Alliance goes to 5 and 2 on the season with the win. Up just 1 heading into the top of the fourth, Alliance plated 6 runs in getting the W. Gering was held hitless by Spartan pitchers Silas Lilley-Stone and AJ Garcia. At the dish, the Preps ended with 6 hits with Quinn Ferguson leading the offense with three.
Play was tight in the opener frame. No runs were scored in the first inning. In the second, the Spartans put 3 in the book. Logan Freiberger reached on an error and scored on a hit by Ferguson. The Prep squad then loaded the bases when Cooper Gallas reached on a miscue by the hosts and a walk to Carson Stroud. Eli Hamburger then walked for Alliance’s second tally. Another misplay by Gering ended the scoring with the Spartans up 3 to 0.
Two strikeouts by Lilley-Stone in the bottom of the second kept the shutout alive.
Knocks by Freiberger and Ferguson helped the Spartans score twice in the top of inning 3. Another error by Gering made it 5 to 0 heading into the home half of the third. Using a couple of walks, an error by Alliance, and a pair of sacrifices, Gering scored 4 times to get within 1 at 5 to 4 heading to the fourth.
Six tallies in their last attempt put the contest away for the Peltz Co. All the damage came with 2 outs. RBI hits by Esai Trejo, Freiberger, and Ferguson made it 7 to 4. The next three runs came on a wild pitch, a passed ball, and an error by the hosts. A bases loaded walk by Alliance’s Dixon Bair finished the rally with the Spartans ahead 11 to 4.
