Inside the Park Homer by Jensen Rallies Preps Past Gering

A nine run seventh inning lifted the Alliance Prep club past Gering on Wednesday 11 to 3. Down 3 to 2 going into their final at bat, the Peltz Co plated nine tallies to surge ahead. The highlight on the night came off the bat of Jace Jensen whose 3 run inside the park homer broke open a 3 to 3 contest. Three Spartans took the mound with starter Quinn Ferguson going 5 frames and striking out 7. Also pitching were Logan Freiberger and Navi Singh. On offense, the Preps had 11 and were led by 2 knocks each by Jensen and Ferguson. The affair was played in Gering and was game 2 of a doubleheader. Alliance took the opener 11 to 4.

Play began with an Alliance run in the first. Dixon Bair singled and later scored on an error by the hosts. Gering went scoreless in the bottom of the inning. The Peltz Co received a hit by Sonny Hernandez in the second but didn’t score. In the home half, catcher AJ Garcia throw out a runner to keep the Spartans in the lead.

Inning # 3 was a scoreless one with Ferguson recording 2 strikeouts. Alliance got one in the fourth. Ferguson reached on an error. Freiberger running for Ferguson then stole home of run 2. Down 2 to 0, Gering was held scoreless in their at bat. Alliance got hits in the top of the fifth from Jensen and Esai Trejo but no runs . Two more k’s by Ferguson in the bottom of the fifth kept the Peltz Co in front by 2.

Momentum then went to Gering in the sixth. Despite another knock by Ferguson in the top of the frame, the Prep squad didn’t score while Gering surged ahead with 3 scores. The hosts a couple of walks and singles to take a 3 to 2 advantage heading into the final frame.

A walk to Freiberger, a hit by Roy Torres, and a walk by Bair loaded the sacks for Alliance in the early moments of the seventh. The Spartans then tied the game at 3 after a passed ball. This set the stage for Jensen whose inside the park homer made it 6 to 3. Alliance’s bats then stayed red hot as the Preps got rbi hits from Garcia, Ferguson, Silas Lilley-Stone, and Freiberger to go up 9 to 3. . The scoring came to a close with 2 more tallies on a passed ball and a Bair sacrifice. Gering went scoreless in their last at bat. Final. Alliance 11
