Clutch Hits by Escamilla Rally Seniors Past Chadron

Alliance hosted Chadron on Saturday in American Legion Senior baseball. The Spartans scored 6 runs in their last 2 at bats to get past Post 12 nine to eight. Chadron was up 8 to 3 heading into the bottom of the sixth before the big comeback. Of offense, the Peltz Co ended with 7 hits and were led by Tony Escamilla who closed with 3 knocks. Tossing for the Seniors were starter Carver Nemnich and relievers Escamilla and Kobe Strom.

Action was quiet in the first 2 innings with both clubs failing to get on the board. PVC scored three in the top of the third to get the lead. The guests used a couple of walks, a pair of hits, and a sac fly to surge ahead 3 to 0. Alliance got one back in the bottom of the third thanks to an rbi hit by Espen Lanik. After three, the Peltz Co was down 3 to 1.

In the fourth, the Seniors drew close. The Spartans held Chadron scoreless while scoring 2. Knocks from Strom and Escamilla plus a pair of wild pitches tied the contest at three all. Using a big three run double, Post 12 retook the lead in the top of the fifth. Alliance failed to score in the home half and the battle went to inning #6 with the Peltz Co behind 7 to 3. One more Chadron run in the top of the sixth put the Senior deficit at 8 to 3.

Strom started the comeback in the bottom of the 6th by reaching on an error. A single by Escamilla ensued. Both runners then scored after a 2 run hit by Braeden Clarke . Another miscue by PVC followed that made it an 8 to 6 game heading into the seventh. Post 12 went down 1-2-3 in their last at bat. The Seniors rally began with a Lanik walk and Nemnich getting hit by a pitch. Up next was Jaxson Esparza whose single knotted the thriller at 8. The contest came to an end with Escamilla’s third hit and a wild pitch that gave the Spartans the victory 9 to 8.
