USA Prime Mountain West used an 8 run third inning in downing the Alliance Spartans 15 to 3 on Friday morning. Rapid City is hosting the Veteran’s classic tournament over the weekend. With the loss, the Peltz Co now has a 13 and 6 record on the year. Prime lead just 3 to 0 after two innings of action before the 8 run outburst in the top of the third. Alliance ended with 4 hits for the contest. Taking the hill for the Seniors was starter Tony Escamilla and relievers Kobe Strom, Creighton Fritzler, EJ Garcia, and Nason Thompson.
Three early tallies by Mountain West put the Spartans in early trouble. Prime used a couple of knocks plus a Senior error to go up 3 to 0. In the home half, the Peltz Co got a single by Espen Lanik but no scores. Escamilla had 2 strikeouts in the top of the second as Mountain West failed to score. Alliance also went scoreless in the second and the contest went to inning #3 with the Spartans behind 3 to 0.
Walks and timely hitting by Prime in their at bat in the third gave Mountain West a nice cushion. Overall, Prime tallied 8 runs to go up 11 to 0. The Peltz Co was shutout in the home half and the game went to the fourth with the Seniors trailing 13 to 0. Inning 4 was a scoreless frame for both teams. Alliance got a Thompson hit but he was stranded on the bases. Mountain West again had success at the plate in the top of the fifth. Prime extended its margin with 4 more scores to increase their lead to 15 to 0. The Peltz Co would battle back with 3 scores in their final attempt. Hits by Jaxon Poss and Kegan Rodriguez set the table for Strom whose hit was misplayed by MW as the Spartans got on the board. Two wild pitches ensued, making it 15 to 3. Alliance’s rally was then put down and Mountain West get the win 15 to 3.
