Extra Inning Contest Goes to Seniors Over Zephyrs

Tony Escamilla’s sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth proved to be the winning score in an Alliance 4 to 3 win over Westco. Tied going into the ninth frame, the Peltz Co scored once then held the Zephyrs in recording the victory. Three Spartans took the hill with starter Espen Lanik going into the fourth. Also hurling were Kegan Rodriguez and Lexton Salcido. Alliance finished the game with 9 hits with Jaxon Poss and Kobe Strom being the leaders with 2 apiece. The game was played Wednesday in Scottsbluff.

Pitching was dominant in the early frames. It took until the fourth inning before the Peltz Co could get in the scorebook. The Spartans got a first inning knock Strom and a third inning single by Poss but no scores. Meanwhile, Westco got on the board in the second to take the lead. The Seniors did turn a double play in the first to stay close.

Alliance scored twice in the top of the fourth. Two errors by the Zephyrs along with a hit by Carver Nemnich resulted in 2 scores. In the fifth, the Peltz Co went up 3 to 1 on an RBI double by Strom. Westco scored one in the home half and the contest went to the sixth with the Seniors in the lead 3 to 2. Alliance received a sixth frame knock by Rodriguez by no scores. The game was then tied in the bottom of the inning as Westco plated one. Frames 7 and 8 were scoreless ones for both squads. The Peltz Co got hits from Escamilla in the 7th and Jaxson Esparza in the 8th. Both runners failed to score. In the 9th, hits by Poss and Lanik brought Escamilla to the dish. His sac fly made it 4 to 3. Salcido sealed the deal with a scoreless frame in the bottom of the inning.
