Douglas rallied with 3 runs in their last at bat to defeat Alliance 9 to 8 on Sunday. Two Spuds ended with 2 hits apiece. They were Jon Luke and Leo Hager. Alliance led 8 to 3 midway through the battle but a late surge by the Travel Cats gave Douglas the W. Starting pitcher Jack Freiberger went 4 frames and was relieved by Tyce Johnson and Luke Clarke. Alliance finished the game with 7 knocks.
Douglas won inning one by holding the Spuds scoreless and plating 2. Both clubs scored once in the second. Hager doubled for Alliance and came across on an RBI groundout by Grady Mracek. The Cats also scored once and the contest went to the third with Alliance down 3 to 1.
Momentum then went to the Spuds in inning #3. Alliance scored 6 times to go up by 4. Luke doubled and scored on a wild pitch. Johnson then singled after a walk to Jack Sautter. Both runners came around on a 2 run single by Landon Hickman. Knocks by Clarke and Hager ensued as Alliance’s lead grew to 7 to 3. No runs by Douglas were scored in the home half of the third. The Spuds got one more in the top of frame 4. Nikki Escamilla drew a walk and scored on a good swing by Luke. The Travel Cats scored twice in the bottom of the frame and with 4 frames in the book, the Spuds were ahead 8 to 5.
Alliance’s bats went silent in the top of the fifth while Douglas scored once. The Spuds did turn a double play to maintain their advantage. Up by 2, Alliance went scoreless in the sixth. Douglas then won the battle with 3 in their last attempt.
