Alliance’s Prep squad battled Chadron on Friday in opening action in a tournament in Rushville. Starting hurler Logan Freiberger tossed 5 innings and had 7 Ks in leading the Spartans past PVC 11 to 3. Tied at 3 heading into the bottom of the third, the Peltz Co plated 4 in surging ahead. Alliance then scored 4 more in the fourth in getting the victory. The Spartans ended the contest with four knocks.
PVC came to the dish first and scored once to take the early margin. Jace Jensen had a hit for Alliance in the home half but didn’t cross the plate. Freiberger had a strikeout in the top of the second as Chadron failed to extend their advantage. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Peltz Co took the lead. Walks by Freiberger and Quinn Ferguson began the scoring. A wild pitch plus an RBI double by Dixon Bair made it 2 to 1. Alliance’s final tally came on another wild pitch. After 2, the Preps were ahead 3 to 1
Both teams found the scoring column in frame #3. Chadron knotted the game with a pair of tallies. In the last of the third, the Peltz Co went ahead with 4 scores. Alliance got free passes from Freiberger and Ferguson to start the scoring. An error by PVC and a passed ball made it 5 to 3. Up next was Roy Torres was singled. After a walk to Spartan Cooper Gallas, the Peltz Co increased its advantage after another passes ball and a steal of home. Heading to the fourth, Alliance enjoyed a 7 to 3 lead.
Two strikeouts by Freiberger in the top of the 4th helped Alliance maintain their lead. Chadron failed to score in their attempt. The Peltz Co plated 4 more in the bottom of the frame. An rbi swing by Gallas along with a passed ball and a 2 run error by PVC made it 11 to 3. Chadron went scoreless in their last at bat. Final. Peltz Co 11. PVC 3
