Jaxon Poss singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th in Alliance’s 7 to 6 victory over the Platte Valley Companies on Wednesday. It was the Senior’s 31st victory on the season. Their mark now stands at 31 and 11. Gering tied the contest at 6 with 2 scores in the top of the 7th setting up Poss for the walk off. Alliance got 4 innings from starter Kyler Hamel. Carver Nemnich tossed the last 3 and had 6 strikeouts. Down 4 to 1 in the last of the fourth, the Peltz Co plated 5 to surge ahead by 2. Alliance concluded with 9 knocks for the battle with Poss, Tony Escamilla, and Jaxson Esparza having 2 each.
Platte Valley won the opener by scoring twice in the top and holding the Seniors without a tally. Bats for both clubs were quiet in the second as neither team scored. Alliance received a second frame knock by Escamilla but no scores. Inning #3 saw Hamel throw a scoreless frame while the Spartans tied the game. Hits from Poss, Esparza, and Nason Thompson started the rally. It ended with a sac fly by Kobe Strom. Heading to the fourth, PVC was up 2 to 1.
Both sides found the scoring column in the fourth. Gering plated 2 to extend their advantage to 4 to 1. Four errors by the visitors aided in the Spartans taking the lead in the home half. Alliance began with Braeden Clarke reaching on a misplay by Gering and a walk to Mike Johnson. An rbi swing by Espen Lanik made it 4 to 2. The Spartans next 2 scores came on an error by Gering on a hit by Esparza and a sacrifice fly by Thompson. Tied at 4, the Seniors scored 2 more on two more miscues by the guests. The Peltz Co led 6 to 4 after four frames of action.
Innings 5 and 6 had both teams go without any tallies. Two strikeouts by Nemnich in the fifth helped the Seniors maintain their margin. Nemnich had 2 more Ks in tossing a scoreless sixth. In the bottom of the frame, Esparza singled but failed to cross. PVC tied the contest in the their final at bat in the seventh. A hit by Escamilla in the last of the frame started Alliance’s walk off. After a sacrifice bunt by Clarke and a Johnson knock, Poss then won the game with a single. Final. Peltz Co
