Four hits in seven innings allowed by Spartan Kyler Hamel carried the Juniors past North Platte 4 to 2 on Saturday. Hamel had 2 strikeouts in his complete game gem. The event was part of the Clair Conley tournament which is being held in Alliance. Three runs in the second by the Peltz Co held up as the Spartans got the victory. Alliance turned 2 double plays late in the battle to withstand a late rally by Post 163. At the plate, the Juniors had 7 hits and were led by Jackson Shelmadine and Miguel Galvan who collected two each.
Inning one was quiet with both squads not scoring . In the top of the second, the Peltz Co scored three. Knocks by Israel Garcia and Shelmadine keyed the scoring. An RBI groundout by Teagen O’Gorman led to a second tally. Alliance’s final score came on a fielder’s choice. The guests went scoreless in the last of the second and the matchup went to the third with the Spartans ahead 3 to 0.
A hit by Casyn Rodriguez in the top of frame 3 gave the Juniors a lift. He was stranded. Things went North Platte’s way in the home half. Post 163 scored twice to get within one. Shelmadine singled in the fourth but didn’t cross. Alliance catcher Tanner Salcido foiled a potential rally for NP in the bottom of the inning as he gunned down a runner trying to steal. Fifth frame action had a hit by Galvan but no runs. A twin killing by the Peltz Co in the last of the fifth kept the Spartans in the lead by 1 heading to the sixth.
Pitching on both sides continued to be strong in frame #6. Hamel put down North Platte 1-2-3 with a K. In Alliance’s final try, the Juniors added an insurance tally. Galvan singled and scored on an RBI swing by Braeden Clarke. Up 4 to 2, the Spartan’s defense ended the contest with their second double play. Final. Alliance 4. NP 2
