Garcia Guides Juniors Past Gillette

Alliance’s Juniors ended their run at the Clair Conley tournament with a 6 to 1 win over Gillette on Sunday. Israel Garcia gave up just 3 hits in his complete game performance. Overall, the Peltz Co went 2 and 1 for the weekend. Alliance broke open a tight matchup with 5 runs in the last of the fifth. Leading the offense was Tanner Salcido who had 2 of the Spartan’s 7 hits.

Frames 1-2-3 were all scoreless ones. Alliance did spin a double play in the top of the first to deny a Rustler rally. Miguel Galvan and Salcido each singled in the last of the first but were stranded. No runs were tallied in the second. Garcia put down Gillette in order while a hit by Spartan Teagen O’Gorman in the home half of the third gave the Peltz Co a chance. He was left on the paths and the contest went to the fourth tied at 0.

Two strikeouts by Garcia in the top of frame #4 kept the Rustlers off the board. Alliance broke thru in the home half with one tally. Casyn Rodriguez reached on an error and later stole home. Garcia had a good swing in the inning but didn’t cross. The guests tied the game in the top of the fifth. Alliance came back with a 5 spot in the bottom of the inning. The Peltz Co used a couple of Gillette errors to retake the lead. Both Fletcher Moseman and Logan Freiberger reached on miscues and scored on an error by the visitors and a passed ball. Up 3 to 1, the scoring closed with knocks by Salcido, Rodriguez, and Carson Stull. When the smoke cleared, the Juniors were up 6 to 1. In the sixth, both teams failed to score. Garcia ended his masterpiece with a K and a scoreless seventh. Final. Spartans 6. Rustlers 1
