Five clubs are battling in McCook over the weekend in the Class B Area 7 Junior’s district tournament. Alliance, the top seed, open play on Saturday with a 15 to 5 win over McCook. The Spartans used an 8 run first inning in getting the victory. Starting for the Peltz Co was Fletcher Moseman who threw 2 innings plus. Jackson Devlin tossed the final 2.1 frames. The Juniors hammered out 12 hits for the contest. Leading the way with 2 knocks each were: Jackson Shelmadine, Casyn Rodriguez, Jaxon Poss, and Israel Garcia.
First Central Bank was up first and went down quietly as Moseman recorded a strikeout in his 1-2-3 frame. In the home half, the Alliance offense went to work. Both Shelmadine and Teagen O’Gorman were hit by pitches to set the table for Miguel Galvan who singled in the Peltz’ Co first tally. Up next was a hit by Tanner Salcido. After an error by McCook brought in another run, the Spartan lead went to 4 after a 2 RBI knock by Rodriguez. The score then went to 6 to 0 after a good swing by Poss. Alliance’s final 2 tallies came after a run scoring hit by Garcia and a sac fly by Shelmadine. After one inning of action, the Spartans were up 8 to 0.
Frame 2 was a scoreless for both squads. The Juniors got a second inning knock by Rodriguez but no scores. McCook broke through in the third with four scores. Moseman would have 2 Ks in the frame. In the bottom of the third, Alliance put three into the score column. Hits by Devlin, Garcia, and Shelmadine made it 9 to 4. A steal of home along with an RBI knock by O’Gorman put the McCook deficit at 7.
Devlin had 2 strikeouts in the top of the 4th as First Central Bank plated one run. Alliance did damage in their last at bat in the home half of the fourth with 4 runs. Poss singled to start the scoring and cross after an error by McCook. Up 12 to 5, the Peltz Co then got a single by Shemadine and a sacrifice fly by Galvan to extend their magin. The Spartan’s final 2 tallies came after another misplay by First Central and a steal of home. Devlin sat down McCook in the top of the fifth with no tallies. Final Alliance 15 McCook 5
