Escamilla Leads Seniors Past Ogallala

Alliance met Ogallala on Saturday for game 2 of the Area 7 district tourney. Sidney hosted the event. Lead by a strong performance on the mound and at the plate by Senior Tony Escamilla, it was the Peltz Co advancing by downing Adams Bank 9 to 1. Escamilla hurled all 5 innings and collected 2 hits to help the Spartans get the victory. Alliance scored 4 times in the second and added three more in the fourth in picking up the W. Along with the 2 knocks by Escamilla, the Seniors got 2 hits each from Espen Lanik, Jaxson Esparza, and Kegan Rodriguez. Alliance ended the contest with

eleven knocks.

Bats were quiet for both squads in the opening frame. After holding Ogallala without a score in the top of the second, the Peltz Co bats came alive in the home half. Alliance plated 4 to surge ahead. Doubles by Esparza and Escamilla started the scoring. Up 1 to 0, the Spartans increased their margin after a single by Kobe Strom and an error by OG. A wild pitch then made it 3 to 0. The scoring closed with the Seniors getting successful swings by Lanik and Rodriguez. Heading to the third, the Peltz Co was ahead 4 to 0.

Frame #3 had Adams Bank and Trust plate one to close to 4 to 1. Alliance got one also in the inning after a triple by Esparza and an RBI knock by Creighton Fritzler. Ogallala was turned away in the top of the fourth after the Spartans spun a double play. Catcher Mike Johnson finished off the frame by throwing a runner on the bases. Alliance added to their advantage with a three spot in the bottom of the inning. A single by Lanik was followed by 2 walks to load the sacks for Escamilla whose double cleared the bases. Down 8 to 1, Ogallala failed to score in their last try in the top of the 5th. The Peltz Co then won the affair in the home half thanks to knocks by Rodriguez and Carver Nemnich. Final. Alliance 9.
