Hank Overin Field in Wayne is the host site for the Class B state tournament in the Juniors division. Games started on Saturday for the Peltz Co club with a contest vs Hickman. Using an 8 run fifth inning, it was Perch Merch getting the win over the Spartans 12 to 3. Alliance was up 2 to 0 after 4 but Hickman rallied in advancing into the winner’s bracket. The Juniors had 6 hits from 6 different batters in the affair. Pitching for the Peltz Co were starter Braeden Clarke along with relievers Kyler Hamel, Fletcher Moseman, and Carson Stull.
Action was quiet in the first three frames with both squads going scoreless. Hickman hit first and were turn away as Clarke recorded 2 Ks in the opener. In the second, Clarke picked off a runner to keep his shutout alive. Meanwhile, the Juniors went 1-2-3 in both the second and third frames. Heading to the fourth, the game was tied at 0. Two more Clarke strikeouts in the top of frame #4 kept Perch Merch off the board. In the bottom of the inning, Alliance took the lead. Scoring started with a walk to Teagan O’Gorman and a hit by Tanner Salcido. Up next was Creighton Fritzler who singled. Thanks 2 errors by Hickman, the Peltz Co tallied 2 and led 2 to 0 after 4 frames of play.
Post 105 responded with a big top of the fifth. Hickman plated 8 and took a 6 run advantage. A three run triple keyed their comeback. The Juniors did turn a double play in the frame. Alliance got one back in the home half. The Spartans got a single by Clarke and an RBI double by Jackson Shelmadine. Miguel Galvan followed with a hit but the Peltz Co was held to just one score. An Alliance rally was denied in the top of the sixth as Hickman scored 4 more to extend their margin to 12 to 3. A three run homer was the highlight of the frame.
