Play at the Class B state junior’s tourney continued in Wayne on Monday with Alliance taking on Aurora. Both clubs entered 1 and 1. The Spartans used big run scoring frames in the second and sixth to down Post 42 11 to 2. Alliance will play West Point on Tuesday while the Cooperative was eliminated. Miguel Galvan started for the Peltz Co and went three frames. Tossing the final three was reliever Fletcher Moseman. At the plate, the Juniors got a 3 hit performance by Tanner Salcido to lead the offense. Alliance ended the affair with 9 knocks. The Spartans scored 5 times in the second then put the game away four in the sixth.
Alliance used a little small ball in the top of the opener to grab the early lead. Walks to Jackson Shelmadine and Teagen O’Gorman set the table. After a sac bunt by Creighton Fritzler, the Peltz Co an RBI knock by Salcido and a steal of home to surge ahead by 2. Galvan had a nice start as Aurora went scoreless in the bottom of the inning.
Frame #2 was the Juniors best inning offensively with 5 tallies. An RBI double by O’Gorman began the scoring. Knocks by Fritzler and Salcido ensued that made it 4 to 0. An error by Post 42 put the Aurora deficit at 6. The scoring closed with the Peltz Co getting an RBI swing by Jaxon Poss. In the home half, the Juniors turn a double play in maintaining their margin. No runs were scored in the third and action went to the fourth with the Spartans out in front 7 to 0.
Aurora made things interesting in frame four. Cooperative kept the Juniors off the board while scoring one. Another twin killing by the Peltz Co in the home half kept the Spartans lead at 6. In the fifth, the Juniors went down in order. Aurora scored once in the frame and play went to the sixth with the Peltz Co ahead 7 to 2.
Any hopes on an Aurora comeback were put to rest in the top of the 6th. Alliance tallied 4 to go by 9. Knocks by Israel Garcia and Shelmadine set up O’Gorman whose double made it 9 to 2. The Spartans last 2 tallies came after a hit by Salcido and a miscue by Aurora. In the last of the 6th, Moseman had a 1-2-3 effort as the Juniors went on for the 11 to 2 W.
