The Alliance Police Department is set to obtain new equipment for their officers after receiving a $20,000 donation from WESTCO and the Land O’ Lakes Foundation during the Sept. 15 Alliance City Council Meeting.
David Briggs, WESTCO General Manager, said at the meeting that WESTCO applied to participate in the Land O’ Lakes Foundation Coop Match Program, which would match the donations of coop members.
New cameras will be installed in the Alliance Police Department cruisers with the funds, which, as a news release from WESTCO states, will “add to the safety of both officers and citizens, increase accountability, improve officer training and assist officers in gathering evidence.”
“We are thankful to the Land O’ Lakes Foundation for the opportunity to participate in their Member Co-op Match Program,” Briggs said in a news release. “Through this program we are able to support a worthy project within our community. WESTCO is appreciative of the service that the Alliance Police Department provides to our community and we are pleased to help fund the purchase of these cameras which will assist officers in their duties.”
At the meeting, Mayor Mike Dafney thanked Briggs and WESTCO for their donation and their dedication to the community.
“We most appreciate what you do, especially WESTCO,” said Dafney. “You’ve been a big player in the community for the longest time. We really thank you for stepping forward and helping in that particular area.”
