Richard Alfred (Dick) Peters Obituary

Richard Alfred (Dick) Peters, 92, of Hyannis passed away on December 29, 2020, at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance with his children by his side.

Dick was born April 16, 1928, to John and Lucille (Crouse) Peters in Ashby, Nebraska. Dick was a lifelong resident of the Ashby/Hyannis area. At the young age of 17, he went into the US Navy and served during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to the Ashby/Hyannis area. In 1949, he married Marcella Paige and to this union, three children were born, Rick, Tammy, and Robert. After his marriage, he started his career working for the railroad. They traveled and lived out of a box car. After Rick started school, Dick retired from the railroad and began his career as a mechanic working for his uncle at Bill’s Garage in Ashby. After several years, he opened his own repair shop in Hyannis.

In September, 1974, he was united in marriage to Sharon Henderson (Jeary). With this union, he added five additional children to his family, Joyce, Jean, Joan, Jana, and Clark.

Some of Dick’s interests were bowling, watching his son, Rick, wrestle, square dancing, storytelling, being active in the community, and going to area auctions looking for antiques and collecting old cars.

After his retirement, they enjoyed traveling the country. After he bought his first horse, Divit, they were very involved with hosting annual trail rides. Dick, acting as the trail boss, and Sharon and crew operating the chuck wagon.

Dick is survived by Rick (Risa) Peters, of North Platte, Tammy DeVoogd of Alliance, Robert (Melody) Peters of Alliance, Joyce Dohse of Scottsbluff, Jean Parker of Gordon, Joan Pruitt of Wichita Falls, Texas, Jana Osborn of Mesa, Arizona, and Clark Jeary of Hyannis, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several other family members and friends, and his beloved horse, Divit. Dick was proceeded in death by his parents, both wives, brother, Pete, sister, Sue, nephew, Steven, and grandson, Waylon.

Memorials are suggested to the Whitman Cemetery or Hyannis Ambulance Fund. Condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm MST Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Whitman Cemetery with Pastor Doug Lee officiating.
