When God used the apostle Peter to write to Christians, He wrote, “Grace and Peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord” (II Peter 1:2 – NIV). The Greek language translated Peace includes the concept of harmony, safety, health, lack of strife. Peace may be a commodity in short supply in our world today. There is worldwide aggression, disputes and complaints. Peace is talked about at times but strife seems to rule. Jesus taught us to have peace in John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you: My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”Jesus is able to give peace in the turmoil of life and to give peace for an eternity with Him.
There is tension in the world we live in. Business is bothered about the future, neighbors hope they can have peace with each other, nations rage about who did what. Jesus said, “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
Remember the first Scripture verse I gave where God revealed how to have peace? He said, “….through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord” (II Peter1:2). Wouldn’t life be great if peace reigned in your neighborhood, in your city and state, in our country, and finally, in the world? The challenge is that peace begins with you and me knowing God and His Son, Jesus.
