Valerie L. Hatzenbuhler obituary

Valerie L. Hatzenbuhler, 90, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Highland Park Care Center with her family by her side.

She was born December 3, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa to Stephen and Daisy (Stockwell) Sturges.

On May 21, 1949 she was united in marriage to Edwin F. Hatzenbuhler in Sioux City, IA.

After several years of working as a beautician, she changed careers.  Valerie worked at BBGH as a Ward Clerk for several years until she retired.

Her hobbies included playing bridge, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.  She was fortunate enough to visit many different places in the United States and other countries throughout her life.  Her favorite was cruising. Holiday times were extremely important to her and she cherished family gatherings as a time of celebration.  She showed her love through baking and her kids and grandkids loved her cinnamon rolls and pies.

Valerie was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, P.E.O., and  BBGH Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Dave (Lisa) Hatzenbuhler of McKinney, TX, Pam (Tom) Evans of Salina, KS, Vicki (Louis) Mentele and Laurie (Jim) Jelinek of Alliance.  She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, 8 brothers and 7 sisters preceded her in death.

Memorial services will be Monday, January 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Gideon Achi officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.  Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church or to Highland Park Memory Support Unit.
