The City of Alliance is proud to celebrate the completion of the new Central Park Playground, a space designed to provide children and families with a fun, accessible, and welcoming place to play for years to come.
Located near the Sunken Gardens, the playground was intentionally designed to complement the area’s natural atmosphere while still offering exciting opportunities for children of all ages. Cultural and Leisure Services Director Shana Brown said community input played an important role in shaping the project.
“We spoke with parents about what their children enjoyed most about the previous playground and what improvements they would like to see,” Brown said. “The goal was to create a playground that fits naturally into the park while still feeling fun and inviting.”
One of the most significant features of the new playground is its poured-in-place accessible surfacing. The smooth surface makes it easier for parents with strollers and individuals who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices to navigate the playground safely.
Brown said the project represents a major step forward for accessibility in Alliance and hopes similar surfacing can be incorporated into other playgrounds throughout the community in the future.
The playground also includes separate play areas for younger and older children, helping create a safer and more enjoyable experience for all ages.
Community support was instrumental in bringing the project to life. A generous $60,000 donation from First Christian Church helped fund the accessible surfacing and other improvements, while the Alliance City Council provided additional funding to complete the project.
Among Brown’s favorite additions is the playground’s accessible merry-go-round, the only one of its kind in Alliance. Designed to allow children of all abilities to play together, the feature offers an inclusive and engaging experience for everyone.
As families begin enjoying the new playground, Brown hopes children will find a place that encourages imagination, outdoor exploration, and lasting memories.
“The playground has a treehouse-like feel and encourages children to connect with nature,” Brown said. “I hope it becomes a place where kids can create their own adventures and enjoy the outdoors.”
The new Central Park Playground reflects the City’s continued commitment to creating high-quality recreational opportunities for Alliance residents and visitors alike.
