With runs in every inning, it was the Alliance Spuds besting the Gering Wild Dawgs 11 to 6 on Sunday. Four scores in the bottom of the fourth put the contest in the bag. Alliance was red hot at the plate, garnering 16 hits. Luke Clarke was the leader offensively with 3 knocks. Starter Grady Mracek went 2 innings for Alliance while coming in for relief were hurlers Tyce Johnson and Clarke.
Legacy hit first and scored once. In the bottom of the first, Alliance plated two runs thanks a walk by Mracek, a hit by Clarke, a wild pitch, and passed ball. Alliance did turn a double play in the top of the inning. The Wild Dawgs retook the lead in their at bat in the second. Gering scored twice to go up 3 to 2. Back came the Spuds. Six hits by Alliance made the board read Spuds 5 Dawgs 3. Alliance got second inning hits from Ridge Toedtli, Nikki Escamilla, Jensen Freiberger, Jack Sautter, and Johnson to surge ahead by 2 after 2 innings of action. The game then became a tie contest with Gering scoring 2 more in the top of frame 3. Alliance answered right back with 2 of their own in the home half. Big swings by Clarke, Leo Hager, and Landon Hickman made it 7 to 5 heading to the 4th.
Two Ks by Johnson in the top of the fourth helped the Spuds maintain their margin. In the bottom of the inning, Alliance added to their advantage. Six more hits meant 4 more runs as the Gering deficit stood at 11 to 5. Getting knocks for the Spuds were: Jensen Freiberger, Sautter, Johnson, Clarke, Hager, and Toedtli. Down by 6, Legacy scored once in their last at bat in the top of the fifth.
