APD Asks for Assistance with Burglary at Carhenge

The Alliance Police Department is reaching out for help from the public in solving a burglary that occurred at Carhenge at the end of March.

On April 5, the APD posted on social media asking for help in solving this crime that occurred on March 28.

“We’ve got a case that’s straight out of a Hollywood flick, and we need your help,” the post on social media stated. “Let’s set the scene: Carhenge, March 28th, around 2:20 AM.We’ve got two sneaky bandits in a slick two-door black sedan. Pretty sure, they thought they were pulling off a heist straight out of ‘Fast & Furious’ with their tinted windows, black rims, and a noisy exhaust system that could wake the dead. Not to mention they brought their bank heist gear including a couple of prybars and a portable drill to break into our dear ol’ Carhenge.”

The post describes the suspects at two, presumably male, individuals, wearing dark clothing. They encourage people to share any information they may have by calling 308-762-4955, or by dropping by the Police Department, located at 512 Niobrara Avenue.

“Let’s turn this caper into a comedy and catch these Ocean’s 11 wannabees before they attempt the sequel,” the social media post states. “Your help is invaluable. Thanks for being our partners in crime-solving.”

This is one of a handful of burglaries in the region that have occurred recently. On Monday, Nebraska Game and Parks officials requested the public to share information about break-ins and thefts that happened at Box Butte State Recreation Area and Chadron State Park.

“Lt. Dan Kling, law enforcement supervisor for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s northwestern district, said the thefts consisted of various tools and materials with a replacement value totaling thousands of dollars,” their press release states.

Anyone who might have information about the break-ins or thefts at Chadron State Park or Box Butte State Recreation Area is encouraged to contact a Nebraska Game and Parks Commission conservation officer or the law enforcement dispatch center in Chadron at 308-432-0510.
