Weymouth Field in Sidney was the site Tuesday for a battle between the AMS 8th grade football team and Sidney. Three touchdowns in the second quarter paced the Bulldogs over the hosts 38 to 8 for their 2nd win on the year. AMS led 8 to 0 after the first then scored 24 points in the second to put the contest out of reach.
Large gains by Bulldog QB Bo McCune enable the guests to get off to a hot start. McCune raced 28 yards on the opening drive to get the Dogs in scoring range. A 12 yard TD pass from McCune to Liam Pena made it 6 to 0 with 4:25 showing on the clock. AMS added the PAT on a pass from McCune to Ashton Weingart. Sidney finished the period with a good possession before a sack by AJ Garcia gave the ball back to the Bulldogs. In the final moments, McCune again connected with Pena for a 30 yard gain. Alliance led 8 to 0 after one.
A reverse play to end Nehemiah Valdez for an Alliance TD is how the second started. The play went 13 yard for the Dog’s second score. McCune then found Dreyton Perez for the PAT and with 7:51 left in the half, the Dogs surged ahead 16 to 0. On the ensuing Raider series, a sack by Pena forced a Sidney punt. The hosts tried a fake but it was unsuccessful. From the 45, a long pass to Perez from McCune set up the next tallies for the visitors. Perez stormed in for the 1 and following another PAT catch by Weingart, the Bulldogs took the lead at 24 to 0 with 3 minutes remaining in the half. Alliance’s next TD came in the final seconds with Perez tossing a touchdown pass to Valdez. The play went 3 yards and the teams went to half with the Dogs in charge 32 to 0 after a good PAT play by Perez.
Alliance last tally came in the third. Following a Red Raider punt, the Dogs went to the air with a pass by McCune to Garcia covering 13 yards. From the 48, McCune ended his big offensive night with a TD strike to Kendrick Quick. The extra point was no good as the Dogs led 38 to 0 with under 5 minutes left in the quarter. Tackles for losses by McCune and Perez would force another Sidney punt on their next attempt. AMS ended the third with a strong run by Tee Johnson and the Dogs in the lead 38 to 0.
Sidney had the only TD in the fourth. The Raiders scored on a 10 yard TD scamper to make it 38 to 8. Alliance got more big gains by Johnson on their last drive. A big gainer came in the air as QB Brandon Bishop connected with Pena. A Sidney pick ended the drive but the Dogs would stopped the hosts on the last drive on the night. Final Alliance 38 Sidney 8
AMS 8 24 6 0 38

Scottsbluff will host the Dogs on Saturday.
