In a defensive struggle, it was the Alliance seventh grade football team downing Scottsbluff 6 to 0 in a battle at Bearcat Stadium on Saturday morning. AMS also defeated the Bluffs in the “B” game 20 to 8 in the second game of the doubleheader. With the wins, both teams improve to 2 and 0 on the year. The victory in the “A” contest marked the first time in 10 years the Bulldogs got the better on the Bearcats.
The hosts received the ball first and quickly found the going difficult. Scottsbluff turn the ball over on downs, giving AMS great field position. Nice plays by the AMS offense advanced the ball into Bearcat territory. A pass from quarterback Jay Shelmadine to end Creighton Fritzler led to an Alliance first down. Nice runs by Caysen Robertson closed the quarter with the score tied at 0. AMS’s drive would stall but the Dog defense was still strong as the Cats were stopped on their next possession. Robertson would then get the Dogs on the scoreboard on a 65 yard touchdown run. The point after was no good. At half, the Bulldogs led 6 to 0.
Defense was again the name of the game in the second half. Alliance got the ball first and was stopped. Scottsbluff would pick up a couple of first downs as the period ended with AMS hanging to the 6 point lead. Disaster would strike the Bulldogs early in the fourth period with an AMS turnover deep in the own territory. The Alliance defense was up for the challenge. With the ball inside 5 yard the Cats were turned away. Robertson’s runs advanced the ball to around the 25 yard and also ran off some valuable time. On the Cat’s last series, the Bulldog D remained stout. A big defensive tackle from Coy Childers pushed the Bearcats back 7 yards. AMS would get into their victory formation and win the ball game 6 to 0.

Bluffs 0 0 0 0 0
Alliance’s defense was strong again the “B” game contest. The first half was all Bulldogs. Solid runs by Coy Childers, fullback Devonte Taylor, and quarterback Tanner Salcido made things tough on the Bearcats. A sneak from Salcido from the 2 yard line put the Dogs on the board first. End of the quarter saw Alliance ahead 6 to 0. In the second a pass from Salcido to Wyatt Stabnow was good for a 20 yard touchdown pass. Jett Childers added the PAT on a pass from Salcido. The half came to a close with Cats returning the following kickoff for the long Bluff’s score. AMS led 14 to 8 at halftime. Another t.d. run by Coy Childers accounted for the only score on the second half as both defenses remained tough. Final AMS 20 Bluffs 8
AMS 6 8 6 0 20
Bluffs 0 8 0 0 8
Coach Mark Glesinger said, “It’s been a long time-10 years- since we were able to win 2 games in Scottsbluff so this was very special. Both team’s defenses were unbelievable as the Bearcats’ only score came on a kick return. In the first game, we spent almost the entire second half on their side of the field as yards were hard to come by. The goal line stand was fun to watch!”
Sidney comes to town on Saturday with a 9 a.m. kickoff set.
