There has recently been a change that has occurred in our house. Following an appointment to have his eyes evaluated, my son is now the proud owner of a pair of glasses. We all wondered when this day would come to our house. Both of my parents wear glasses, my in laws wear glasses and my bride used to wear them before having corrective surgery as a child. I’ve been the lucky one thus far and not had to have them, though I fear my time is coming.
I’m thankful for the viewpoint of a child. He told us just last night that he was thankful we are all different. He thought it would be pretty boring if we all looked and acted the same way. He’s got a very good point. Our differences as people are what make us unique. I’m thankful that my boy is proud of his new glasses and that he views the world with kind eyes through them. I think in this tumultuous society that we live in, we could all take a lesson from a child.
Whatever happened to civil debate and compromise? Why do we have to shut the government down and hold peoples paychecks hostage when we don’t get our way? Is there something wrong with talking through problems to find a solution? Seems like everyone just wants to scream a holler at each other until one side finally gives in. When it comes to politics, I’m about as conservative as can be. I’ve got friends that are a little more liberal than I am, but we can agree to disagree and still be friends. We don’t have to cause a scene when there’s an issue we don’t see eye to eye on. I am getting fed up with the example that those who are elected to public office are setting for the rest of this country.
The beauty of our government is that there is a system of checks and balances in place. No one person, or party was ever designed to have sole power over the people. That is why we have elections, we have laws and we have systems in place to prevent government overreach. We are the land of the free and the home of the brave. I didn’t wake up this morning and have some dictator tell me what I was going to do for the day. I likely won’t be thrown in some prison in Siberia for having a different opinion that some of my government.
Through the eyes of a child, everyday looks bright. They smile and laugh and look forward to spending time with others. Children run and play and laugh and leave the hard decisions up to the adults. Maybe it’s time that we as adults start viewing life through the eyes of our children. Instead of fighting with one another over petty things, lets figure out a compromise that works best for everyone. Rather than one person or party being in charge for years on end, lets respect the wishes of the people and do what they are asking us to do instead of serving our own interests when in power.
I guess I’ll quit rambling on. I’ll leave you with one thought though. I am thankful that there is a Risen King that serves to rule. I find peace knowing that He is in everything and is coming back one day to gather his flock. I know that if the world hates me for believing this, it hated Him first. That’s all for this time, show some compassion to your neighbor, be kind in all you do and pray for our country. Keep tabs on your side of the Barbed wire and God bless.
