Hemingford hosted South Loup on Friday afternoon in a contest that felt like a playoff match up. Fourteen straight points by the guests lifted South Loup over Hemingford 34 to 30. Both team’s records stand at 3 and 1. The hosts led 30 to 22 in the third but 2 TDs late by the visitors gave SL the W.
South Loup got on the board first to surge ahead. Their PAT was no good. Down 6 to 0, the home town Cats answered on a 65 yard TD run by Jayce Haas. Hemingford’s point after was good as the Cats took the lead at 8 to 6. Second period action had another TD by the guests that put them back on top 14 to 8. On the ensuing kickoff, Haas scored again on a 64 yard kick return. The point after was successful as the Bobcats retook the lead at 16 to 14.
The see saw affair again went to back to South Loup as the guests scored to go up 20 to 16. Their extra point was good that put the Hemingford deficit at 6. Back came H town. A third quarter TD by Haas that went 16 yards tied the contest at 22. Hemingford added the PAT to surge ahead by 2 at 24 to 22. Later in the period, the Cats margin grew with a 8 yard TD rumble by Anthony Haas. The following point after was turned away as the Bobcats went up 30 to 22. Unfortunately, it was South Loup scoring the final 2 TDs and getting the win 34 to 30.
Hemingford goes to North Platte on Friday for a battle with Saint Pats.
