Tree of Love Invites Sharing of Christmas Spirit
Box Butte County RSVP invites and challenges you to include a local nursing home resident in your Christmas giving this year. RSVP will set up a “Tree of Love” at Carter’s on Wednesday, November 26. This tree will be decorated with ornaments, listing gift suggestions for the residents of Highland Park and Highland Park Assisted Living. In Hemingford, there is a tree set up at Treasured Grounds that is decorated with ornaments listing gift suggestions for the residents of Hemingford Care Center.
To share in the true spirit of Christmas, stop into Carter’s or Treasured Grounds, select an ornament, and purchase a gift for a nursing home resident. Gifts should be left at Carter’s or the Hemingford Care Center no later than Thursday, December 18.
December Story Time, LEGO Club at Alliance Public Library
Story Time themes at Alliance Public Library for ages 3-6 include Authors & Illustrators on December 2 and 4, Time to Rhyme on December 9 and 11 then Hooray for Holidays on December 16 and 18. Story Time meets in the Children’s Room with several stories, birthdays, music, puppets and craft on Tuesdays at 10 am and Thursdays at 1 pm.
LEGO Club for grades K-2 meets on Tuesdays, December 2 and 16 from 4-5 pm. LEGO Club for grades 3-5 meets on Tuesday, December 9 from 4-5 pm. Both groups meet in the APL Community Room and all LEGO supplies remain at the library for future use.
APL Announces Mystery Book Club
The Alliance Public Library has a new book club coming soon! Mystery, suspense and lots of great adventure and intrigue await at the Tuesday Night Mystery Book Club. You won’t want to miss the discussion of Lisa Jewell’s suspense novel, “None of This Is True”.
Join us Tuesday, December 16th, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Library. Books are available for checkout with an Alliance Public Library card. The Library is located at 1750 Sweetwater Avenue in Alliance, NE. We are open Monday-Friday, with limited hours on Saturday.

Winterization of City of Alliance Public Restrooms Begins
The City of Alliance Parks Division will be winterizing public restrooms beginning this week to avoid damage from freezing winter temperatures. The restrooms at 3rd and Box Butte Mini Park, in Central Park and at Laing Lake will be closed for the winter starting this week.
New Flood Insurance Rate Maps in Box Butte County
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is currently undergoing a mapping project in Box Butte County, Nebraska to provide up-to-date flood risk information for the county. At the conclusion of this project, FEMA will issue new Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) with updated floodplain boundaries. These updated boundaries could affect flood insurance requirements for property owners.
The Floodplain Mapping Division from the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment will be hosting a public open house in order to give property owners the opportunity to learn about their flood risk and ask floodplain-related questions. The open house is scheduled for Thursday, December 18th, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. The open house will be held at the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center, located at 908 Yellowstone Ave, Alliance, NE 69301.
Search for Snoopy and Gingerbread Journey at Alliance Public Library
The search is on at Alliance Public Library! Preschool through second grade can Search for Snoopy during Library hours through December 24, with one prize per day and one prize per child.
Grades 3-12 can join the Gingerbread Journey by picking up a Scavenger Hunt list at the circulation desk, collecting items from the list, then returning to the circulation desk with all items for their prize, with one prize per youth. No checkout of items is needed for this event, which also continues through December 24, during Library hours.
December Digital Detox Fridays at Alliance Public Library
Alliance Public Library invites you to Digital Detox Friday events, festive intergenerational activities to inspire and engage your creative mind!
Join in Holiday Crafts with Keep Alliance Beautiful on Friday, December 5 for preschool and over, with families welcome to create together from 10-11 am in the APL Community Room. All supplies are provided, including nature and recycled materials.
Celebrate Christmas Around the World, featuring fun facts about ways others celebrate the holidays on Friday, December 12 from 10-11:30 am in the APL Community Room. This intergenerational event for preschool and over, will also include a Show & Tell time. Bring along a special treasure from your own holiday collection to share about. Plus enjoy books from our library collection and a Power Point presentation. If you have special items to share in our display, you can bring them to the library before December 12 or bring to share at the event.
