On August 12, 2026, employees with the City of Alliance Public Works Department participated in their quarterly bulldozer machine training, continuing the department’s commitment to workplace safety, employee development and proper equipment operation.
The training was conducted by Landfill Foreman Clint Fankhauser and provided employees with an opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of one of the larger pieces of equipment used within the Public Works Department. Employees, both those familiar with bulldozer operations and those newer to the equipment, were able to gain valuable hands-on knowledge and a better understanding of the machine’s capabilities.
The primary goal of the training is to ensure that as many Public Works employees as possible are confident and capable when operating the bulldozer. While learning how to efficiently operate the equipment is an important part of the training, safety remains the department’s top priority.
Proper equipment training not only helps employees understand how a machine operates, but also helps them recognize what the equipment is capable of and how it should be used in different situations. By building that knowledge, employees are better prepared to operate machinery safely and efficiently while carrying out the work required to serve the Alliance community.
Fankhauser emphasized the value of continuing to develop employees’ skills and knowledge across the department.
“I want employees to walk away from this training with a new skill they may not have had before,” Fankhauser said. “Every piece of equipment you learn makes you that much more valuable to the team.”
The department conducts this training every three months to help employees remain familiar with the equipment and to reinforce safe operating practices. Regular training is important even for employees who have previously completed the course, as continued education helps keep skills fresh and ensures that employees remain comfortable and confident when operating machinery.
For employees who are new to the Public Works team, the quarterly training also provides an opportunity to learn about equipment they may not have operated before. Expanding the number of employees who are trained to operate different types of machinery gives the department greater flexibility and allows employees to assist in a variety of Public Works operations.
The City of Alliance Public Works Department relies on its employees and equipment to complete a wide range of tasks throughout the community. Maintaining properly trained employees is an important part of ensuring that work can be completed safely, effectively and efficiently.
Through continued quarterly training, the Public Works Department is working to provide its employees with the knowledge and skills they need while maintaining a strong focus on safety. As Fankhauser noted, each new piece of equipment an employee learns adds another valuable skill to the team.
