Donald F. Sjostrom Obituary

Donald F. Sjostrom, 89, passed away Wednesday, December 14th, 2022 at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs, NE.

He was born March 20th, 1933 along with his twin brother Ronald, in Chicago, IL to Herman Sjostrom and Veronica Eileen Sjostrom.

Don entered the U.S. Army on March 24th, 1953 and served until he was honorably discharged on July 26th, 1955.

On March 17th, 1968 he was united in marriage to Paulla J. Vickers in Hemingford, NE.

Don was active in community groups including REACT and Kiwanis. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Chadron State College in 1976. He enjoyed engaging in conversation over a coffee at many local diners and he was a supportive figure in many lives throughout the town. As recognition of his military service, he was awarded the 300,000th Quilt of Valor in April 2022.

His survivors include his wife, Paulla, his children, Jack (Joey) Sjostrom of Las Vegas, NV, Anthony (Amanda Codina) Sjostrom of Lone Tree, CO and Katherine (Mark) Brykit of Toney, Alabama. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Ronald and older brother, Herman.

Memorial services and interment at Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance will be at a later date, on March 20, 2023.  The time will be determined.
