Doris Jean Hamilton, age 83 of Alliance, Nebraska passed away Wednesday April 21st, 2021 at Skyview Care in Bridgeport Nebraska after battling Alzheimer’s disease.
Doris was born June 23, 1937 in Hyannis to Alice and Wayne Weakly of Hyannis. She attended school in Hyannis where she graduated high school in 1954. She then went on to Chadron Normal training where she received her teaching certificate. After receiving her certificate she taught at rural schools south of Gordon, north of Ellsworth, and west of Berea.
Doris married Ken Hamilton on June 28th, 1959 in Alliance. Here they raised four boys, Dale, Kim, Barry and Troy and ran their own appliance repair business. Doris was an active volunteer in the community. She was active for over 50 years local Eagles Auxiliary where she served many roles including Madam President. She started the soup suppers and was very active in the Cancer Card Party. She also served as treasurer for the Panhandle Country Music Association for over 30 years.
In recognition of all her volunteer efforts for the community, she was made an Admiral of The Great Navy of the State of Nebraska in 2008 by then Governor Dave Heineman.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents Alice and Wayne Weakly, son Troy, daughter-in-law Sue Hamilton, brother Bob Weakly, and sister Marge Smith.
Doris is survived by her husband Ken, and her sons Dale of Alliance, Kim of Anoka Minnesota and Barry (Mickey) Hamilton of Aurora Colorado, four grandchildren: Laura Hamilton, Grant Hamilton, Johanna Hamilton and Cassie Hamilton, her brothers: Joe Weakly of Colorado and Gerald Weakly of Wyoming, sister-in-laws: Lois Weakly of Idaho, Judy Kob of Colorado, and Betty Duke of Texas.
A memorial service will be held at Bates-Gould Chapel on Wednesday May 5th, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Settle officiating.
