Four Touchdown Performance by Johnson Lifts Bulldog JV Team Past Ogallala

Everything went the way of the hosts in Monday’s Junior Varsity match up featuring Alliance and Ogallala. AHS used four touchdown passes by quarterback Tripp Johnson, a safety, five interceptions, and a punt return in downing the guest Indians 40 to 0. The Bulldogs had a 28 to 0 lead at half then scored 2 more times in the second half in posting the win.

Only one touchdown was scored in the first period. Alliance got the ball first and went three and out. On the Indian’s opening drive, Ogallala fumbled. The ball was recovered by Dog Grant Bloyd as AHS took over inside the 40 yard line. A pass from Johnson to Jackson Shelmadine got the Bulldogs in striking range. At the 4:52 mark, AHS scored on a 19 yard pass from Johnson to Tanner Salcido. Jett Childers carried in the extra point. Both teams would have one first quarter possession but no scores. Alliance received positive pass play from Johnson to Roy Torres, Salcido, Mykey Valdovinos, and Aschen Fries to drive deep into OG territory. A fourth down was stopped and the quarter closed with AHS up by 8.

AHS’s next points came on a safety. Bloyd came crashing in from his linebacker spot to tackle an Indian back in the end zone, making it 10 to 0 and giving the ball back to the Alliance offense. Successful plays by Torres, Childers, and Mason Winter put the Bulldogs in good shape. The drive ended with a TD run by Childers from the 18 at with 5:52 showing on the clock. The PAT was no good as the Dogs went ahead 16 to 0. On OG’s next drive, a tackle for a loss by Bulldog Dan Pfannenstiel forced an Indian punt. The punt was caught at the 45 and return 55 yards for another score by Torres. With 4:32 left in the half, AHS had a 22 to 0 lead. Salcido then had 2 big plays for Alliance in the final moments of the half. The Bulldog junior had an interception then scored on a 49 yard TD pass from Johnson. A pick by Shelmadine then finished off the half with AHS out in front 28 to 0.

Stout defensive plays by the hosts continued in the third. Another tackle for a loss by Pfannenstiel forced an OG punt on the Indian’s first drive. Taking over at midfield, AHS got positive ground gains by Bloyd to threaten again. The drive culminated with a 32 yard TD pass by Johnson to Torres. With 5:07 remaining in the period, the Dogs enjoyed a 34 to 0 advantage. Another INT, this one by Alliance’s Mason Conyers kept the visitors off the board. AHS was unable to cash in on the turnover and the game went to the fourth with the Dogs in the lead 34 to 0.

Two more interceptions by Alliance in the 4th kept the shutout alive. The first came from Fries. Nice gains on the ground by Shelmadine set up Alliance’s last score. Three completed passes to Fries got the Bulldogs close. A swing pass from Johnson to Shelmadine covering 5 yards was good for the last score of the contest. It came at the 2:26 mark and gave the hosts a 40 to 0 lead. OG would have one last attempt. But an interception in the end zone by Torres ended the affair with the Bulldogs getting the win 40 to 0.
