Freiberger, Armstrong, Childers, and Salcido Pace Crusaders at Opening Meet in Grant

The 2024 track season began for the Alliance St. Agnes Crusaders on Thursday with SA taking part in a meet in Grant.

Eleven teams competed in action for both girls and boys and divisions for both seventh and eighth graders. Best team finish for the Crusaders came in the seventh grade boy’s side with St. Agnes ending in third place with 72 points. The Alliance seventh grade girls also had a strong day, finishing in fourth place with 75 points. Both 8th grade squads came in fifth place with the Crusader boys tallying 68 points while the Alliance 8th grade girls had 54 points. Team titles for the boys went to Chase County had scored 194 points in the seventh grade division and 137 points for the 8th grade boys. On the girl’s side it was Sedgwick County winning the 8th grade trophy with 120 points. Chase County won the 7th grade girls competition with 87 points.

Individually St. Agnes had 6 champions, 3 for the boys and 3 for the girls. Alliance’s 8th grade boys had 3 gold medal performances with Coy Childers winning the pole vault, Tanner Salcido winning the triple jump, and the 400 relay garnering the gold. Childers broke his own school record of 8’7 by vaulting 9’6.

Salcido won with a leap of 35’6 in the triple while Alliance was first in the 400 relay with a team of 50.77. Members were: Coy Childers, Salcido, Jackson Devlin, and Jay Shelmadine. For the St. Agnes girls eighth grade Kimber Freiberger had a nice start to her season winning the mile with a time of 6:17 breaking her own school record of 6:25. Reese Armstrong also had a super performance, winning both the pole vault and the triple jump. Armstrong’s mark of 7’6 tied the school record in the vault.
