Paced by a three gold medal performance from junior Austin Benda, the Hemingford boy’s track team repeated as Western Conference champs on Monday at a meet in Bayard. Benda won the 800, mile, and 2 mile to lead the Cats. HHS also got a strong effort from sophomore Jayce Haas who won both the 200 and 400 and placed second in the 100 and long jump. The Bobcats netted first with 132 tallies. Mitchell took second with 107 with Bridgeport placing third with 82. Seven schools competed.
Mitchell was first on the girl’s side with 147.5. Runner up honors went to Kimball who scored 84. Bayard was third with 77.5. The Lady Cats scored 13 points which was good for seventh overall. Top finishers for Hemingford were Teagen Thompson who was fourth in the mile and Teagan Yale who ended fourth in the long jump.
