My name is Tim Garwood and I was born and raised in Alliance Nebraska. I have been involved in the farm equipment business for over 37 years and have recently retired. Over the past couple of years I have become increasingly frustrated with the state of affairs in Washington D.C.. Party politics has taken over as a way of life. There was a time when the voters sent their representatives to Washington with the hopes that they would actually represent them, not succumb to the wishes of one man. We need people in Washington that will stand up for the common sense values of western Nebraska farmers and ranchers. Our current representative has chosen to stay silent on many of the controversial issues we are faced with on a regular basis. The result of these inactions has caused higher prices for fuel, fertilizer and equipment in order to raise a decent crop. With all the tariff wars going on we are losing market share to foreign countries making it difficult to stay in business. Ranchers have recently been informed that the administration has decided to import 300,000 metric tons of Argentina beef in order to help the American consumer. The only effect this action is going to have will be to flood the market with cheaper beef that will be sold 25% below the current market value. Our ranchers have enough of a challenge staying in business without the current administration messing with things they know nothing about.
Mark Cohen is running for Congress from the Third District as an Independent. He’s not taking corporate money and doesn’t answer to a party boss or big donors. He earned an advanced degree in agriculture law and has served as an Air Force Judge Advocate. He lives in Lemoyne Nebraska.
