Master Gardener: What’s Growing at the NRD Greener Gardens Greenhouse

By Kirstee Schutte

Nebraska Extension Master Gardener

April 22 – The North Platte NRD greenhouse project, the Greener Gardens Greenhouse was built in 2018 as an in-ground, geothermal, experimental greenhouse. It’s 138 ft long and 17 ft wide, nestled 4 ft in the ground, and operates year-round with the help of volunteer master gardeners. Produce grown in the greenhouse is donated locally and the yearly sustainability sale uses proceeds to continue operations. Contact me, Kirstee Schutte, with questions at (308) 632-7226.

April 26 – Have you ever heard of an “edible landscape” or “food forest?” It’s a diverse landscape design that primarily utilized fruit, or nut bearing trees and shrubs for humans and wildlife. I would like to invite you to come out to the North Platte NRD’s annual water expo on Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to tour our greenhouse and new edible landscape installation.
