Five scores in their final at bat lifted Sterling past the Alliance Prep team 11 to 10 in the last contest of the Sidney tournament. The game was played Sunday. Alliance held a 10 to 6 heading to the bottom of the fifth before the Tigers roared back with 5 tallies to take the win. The Spartans ended the game with 9 hits and were led by Quinn Ferguson who had 3. Ferguson was the Peltz Co starter. Also taking the hill were Esai Trejo and Braden Myers.
Alliance was the visitors and failed to score in the opening frame. Ferguson had a hit for the Spartans but was stranded on the sacks. A pair of singles by Sterling helped the Tigers get one run in the bottom of inning one. The Peltz Co bats continued to be silent in the second while Sterling surged ahead with 2 scores. Heading to the third, Alliance was down 3 to 0.
Two tallies by the Spartans in the top of the third sliced their deficit to one. Alliance got RBI hits by Myers and Ferguson to make it a 3 to 2 ball game. Sterling countered with a 3 spot in the bottom of the frame to go up 6 to 2. In the fourth, the Peltz Co took the lead with 6 scores. An RBI double by Cisco Cody made the score 6 to 3. A pair of passed balls by the Tigers pulled the Spartans to within one at 6 to 5. Ryan Walker and Kyler Adams then walked to continue the spree. Torres was next and his run scoring hit tied the contest at 6. Hits by Ferguson and Trejo plus an error by the Tigers ended the scoring with the Preps going ahead 8 to 6. Sterling failed to score in the bottom of the fourth and the game went to the final frame with Alliance ahead 8 to 6.
Inning #5 started with Cody walking and advancing after a hit by Silas Lilley-Stone. Both runners would cross home following a 2 RBI hit by Walker. Down 10 to 6, Sterling then rallied for the win. The Tigers used a couple of hits, a few walks, an error by the Spartans, and a passed ball to complete the scoring. Final Sterling 11 Peltz Co 10
