Reflections for the Week of April 11-15

Electric:

• Started a three phase rebuild project on Valley Road east of HWY 385.

• We had a number of small electric issues related to the strong winds, mainly trees in power lines and broken jumper wires.

• We repaired/replaced numerous streetlights this week.

Police Admin:

• Police Academy Graduation in Grand Island. Congratulations to Officer Gomez and Officer Buskirk for successful completion of academy! They start the Field Training Program this week.

• 5ire Database interaction standards meeting.

• Datalytics meeting and database frame for internet platform.

• Panhandle Emergency Management Team Meeting attended with Fire Chief.

• Motorola and Action Communications Meeting.

• Chamber meeting for Heritage Days Planning.

Police Communications/Intelligence:

• Coordinated 579 calls for service.

• Completed 5 report requests.

• 2 firearms permits issued.

Police Operations:

• 7 Child Welfare Investigations.

• 0 DUI, 26 Traffic Stops.

• 2 accidents.

• 1 K9 deployment.

• 158 Building Checks.

• 22 Community Contacts/Business Checks.

• 10 Active Investigations.

Animal Control:

• 24 Animal Calls.

• 2 Dog Impounds. 2 dogs currently in the shelter.

Code Enforcement:

• 2 Code enforcement issues.

Notable Service:

• K9 Deployment on traffic stop. Methamphetamine seized.

• Burglary/Theft of $10,000 cash. After investigating officers arrested the suspected the next day recovering about $8,000. Our thanks to BBSO, WING and NSP for assistance during our investigation.

• Officers forced entry to a residence on a requested welfare check to find an elderly female suffering from medical issues. She was transported to the hospital.

Fire:

• Participated in webinar training on the hospital evacuation during the Marshal Fire in Colorado.

• Attended the Panhandle (Emergency Management) PET Meeting in Chadron.

• Met with the new Nebraska Motorola Solutions Sales Representative.

• FlowMSP Pre-Incident Fire Planning implementation moving into the Strategy and Training phase.

Public Works:

• Jail/Court house sewer replacement near completion.

• Start of repairs to sewer line behind Methodist Church.

• 220 Customers Landfill.

• 255.57 tons at the landfill.

• 280 remote water meters installed to date.

• 18th and Colorado well repairs begin Monday.

• 3rd street overlay starts Tuesday April 19th.

Pool:

• Funbrella supports and mechanisms were evaluated and replaced and repaired as necessary. Replacement canvas arrived and will go up closer to pool season.

• Conducted lifeguard interviews. Guard/Cashier staffing levels are close to where they need to be but we are still looking for qualified Mgr. & Asst. Mgr.

• Replacement equipment is delayed and is scheduled to arrive next week with installation to follow.

• Swim lesson sign ups were conducted and registrations continue.

Museum:

• Assisted visitors with family research.

• Hosted several school tours.

• Visitor numbers are picking up as we get closer to summer.

• Staff assists with swim lesson registrations & facility rentals as necessary.

• Updated inventory in the gift shop.

• Gathering information and artifacts for new displays.

Library:

• The Summer Reading materials have begun arriving so that has inspired the staff to finalize our preparation. Watch for details!

• This week’s Storytime featured an Easter egg hunt for the kids!

• This was the first week of parent crafting sessions during Storytime. We are happy to say it was a complete success with Nalani sharing her macramé skills in making a plant hanger. This got rave reviews, so will certainly plan on hosting more of these events.

• This week we had over 500 visitors to the library!

Parks:

• Worked on improvements/repairs at the pool.

• Collected tumble weed and trash on public grounds after the wind.

• Tennis lights arrived and assembly will begin indoors & they will be installed when the weather cooperates.

• Conducted interviews for seasonal help.

• Spray contracts were drafted and sent to the selected contractor for signatures.

• Assisted with improvements to the Golf spray equipment.

RSVP:

• Provided on site and delivery meals. Numbers continue to be steady.

• Coordinated with contractors and suppliers to try to get the kitchen remodel project completed.

Finance:

• Financing of the new refuse truck in the amount of $215,000 was closed with Platte Valley Bank.

Community Development:

• Red Bear Garage was approved for a building permit for an additional building.

• Runza is working on final interior finishings and fixtures.

Chamber:

• Held the Annual Easter Egg Hunt.

• Held a Heritage Days meeting.

• Ambassadors held a Ribbon Cutting at Goodwill Industries.

• Hosted Congressman Adrian Smith at the Knight Museum & Sandhills Center.

BBDC:

• Hosted Perfect Blend in Hemingford Tuesday, Legion Supper Club which is now open Wednesday-Saturday and Sunday’s for breakfast.

• Attended along with Mara Andersen the Snow Redfern Foundation – Career Pathways planning workshop at the WNCC Harms Center in Scottsbluff Wednesday – more information to come on this subject.

• Attended NEDA monthly board meeting Thursday morning, Annual Conference in Valentine May 11-13.

• NO Perfect Blend in May due to NEDA Annual Conference.
