Rematch Goes to Lovell

Round 2 of games between Alliance and Lovell ended the same as the first matchup. On Friday, the Mustangs defeated the Spartans 8 to 3. Same story second verse on Saturday with Lovell getting the win 7 to 4. The game was played in Torrington. Alliance outhit the Mustangs 10 to 9 but trailed throughout. Pitching for the Peltz Co were starter Israel Garcia and Jackson Devlin. On offense, three Juniors closed with 2 hits each. They were: Miguel Galvan, Tanner Salcido, and Jackson Shelmadine.

Hopes were high for the Spartans in the first with hits by Galvan and Salcido. But the Peltz Co failed to score. In the bottom of the inning, the Mustangs tallied two scores. Frame #2 was a scoreless one with Garcia recording three strikeouts. Alliance tied the contest in the top of the third. Shelmadine and Garcia had knocks and both runners scored on a steal of home and an error by Lovell. The action closed with a Salcido hit and the affair knotted at 2. Lovell got one back in the home half and the ball game went to the fourth with the Spartans down by 1.

Devlin had a hit in the top of the fourth but the Peltz Co was turned away. Lovell added to their advantage in the bottom with 2 more to surge ahead 5 to 2. Alliance bats were solid in the top of the fifth as the Spartans plated 2. Knocks by Teagan O’Gorman and Galvan set the table for Logan Freiberger whose hit was misplaced, making the score 5 to 3. An rbi hit by Carson Stull ensued as the Juniors closed to 5 to 4. Back came the Mustangs with one more tally and the battle went to the sixth with the Mustangs up 6 to 4. A hit by Shelmadine was the Alliance highlight in the top of the inning but he didn’t cross home. Meanwhile, Lovell kept the pressure with another score. Alliance failed to score in their last at bat as the Mustangs got the win 7 to 4.
