Shelmadine Shatters School Records at Bluffs’ Best of the West Meet

Tuesday track action had 11 athletes from St. Agnes travel to Scottsbluff for the Best of the West meet. 8th grader Alexis Shelmadine was the Academy’s top performance. Shelmadine brought home 2 golds, a silver, and a bronze and broke 3 individual school records in the process. In the 400, Shelmadine was first with a school record time of 1:02. She also was first in the pole vault with a mark of 9’8, breaking her old record. Shelmadine ended second in the 100 hurdles with a school record time of 16.2. The Crusaders then finished their day with a third place medal in the mile relay with a school record time of 4:28. Team members were: Shelmadine, Kale Hulquist, Quinn Robertson, and Penn Vergil. No team scores were kept.

St. Agnes was also strong in the girl’s high jump with teammates Vergil and Aubrey Dudden tying for first with a leap of 4’10. Vergil also won the 800 and took second in the long jump. Robertson was fifth in the 200 hurdles while Dudden was ninth in the long jump. The Academy ended seventh in the 400 relay with members: Robertson, Grace Shrewsbury, Hulquist, and Dudden. For the Crusader boy’s squad, it was Tatum Devlin leading the way with a sixth place finish in the 800. St. Agnes also qualified in the 2 mile relay where they were 8th. Taking part were: Tee Johnson, Declan Kirchner, Rowan Richey, and Chief Cody.
