Shutout by Galles Helps Seniors Down Expos 1 to 0

Game 2 of a doubleheader between the Spartans of Alliance and Post 22 from Rapid City was a real pitcher’s dual. The Spartans got a complete game from Cody Galles and defeated the hosts 1 to 0. Galles held the Expos to 7 hits while walking none and striking out 3. The contest was played on Tuesday as the Peltz Co improved to 13 and 4 for the year. Alliance scored once in the second inning and then held on the W. The Peltz Co also won the first matchup , topping Rapid 6 to 5. Alliance ended with 5 hits for the game.

Early momentum went to the Expos in the opening inning. The Seniors from Alliance went down in order in the frame while Rapid City started the battle with 3 straight hits. A double play turned by the Spartans would end the action with Post 22 going scoreless. Inning 2 saw the game’s only tally. A double by Spartan Nason Thompson was followed by a fly ball out in which Thompson tagged and moved to third. From there, a sac fly by Jaxson Esparza made it a 1 to 0 ball game. Galles would record a strikeout in the home half of the inning, keeping the South Dakota club off the board.

Inning 3 had Alliance’s Creighton Fritzler get a hit but no runs for the Spartans. Another twin killing by the Peltz Co defense helped the guests maintain their advantage. A single by Spartan Kobe Strom gave Alliance hope in the fourth but he was left on the bases. Galles had a scoreless frame in the bottom of the inning.

Alliance’s best chance to add to their margin was in the fifth. The seniors gave knocks from Galles and Mikey Johnson but no tallies. In the bottom of the fifth, the hosts went down 1-2-3 with Galles getting another k.

Bats remained quiet in the sixth as both teams failed to score. The Peltz Co also went down scoreless in the top of the seventh. Galles finished off his performance with a strikeout and the game came to an end with the Spartans getting the 1 to victory.
