Two first inning scores were just enough for the Alliance senior squad in a 2 to 1 victory over Casper on Saturday. The Spartans won for the third time in the Conley tournament which began on Thursday in Alliance. Pitcher Tony Escamilla was the Peltz Co star, going all 7 innings and striking out 9. Escamilla limited CBC to just one hit. Alliance scored twice in the first inning then held off a late rally by the Wranglers. With the W, the seniors now have a 16 and 4 record on the season. Alliance finished the night with 6 hits with Carver Nemnich and Nason Thompson leading the way with two knocks apiece.
Post 2 failed to score in the first with Escamilla having one k. The Spartans then get 2 across in the home half to take an early advantage. Nemnich began the scoring with a single and moved to second when Alliance’s Kobe Strom was hit by a pitch. Both runners then advanced after a passed ball. A 2 run single by Thompson ensued as the Peltz Co went up 2 to 0. Inning 2 saw Escamilla setting CBC down in order. The Seniors would get a hit by Espen Lanik and no scores.
Escamilla had another clean inning in the third while a knock by Strom gave the Spartans a chance. Unfortunately, the Alliance right fielder was left on the bases. Two more Escamilla k’s kept the Wranglers out the scoring column in the fourth while Alliance also went scoreless in the frame.
CBC’s bats were again cold in the fifth with Escamilla getting 2 more strikeouts. The Peltz Co had a chance in the bottom of the inning with hits by Nemnich and Thompson but both runners were left on the bases. Inning #6 had another 1-2-3 inning by Escamilla and no runs for the Spartans. Escamilla would lose both his no hitter and shutout in Casper’s last at bat. A double and an error by the seniors made it a 2 to 1 game. Alliance put the contest away with a double play and a 2 to 1 win.
