Alliance and Sidney met in Rushville on Saturday in tournament play. A five run final inning by the Preps from Sidney fell short as the Spartans got the win 6 to 5. Alliance had 8 hits for the contest. Leading the offense with 2 knocks apiece were: Esai Trejo, Roy Torres, and Jace Jensen. Getting the start for the Peltz Co was Quinn Ferguson who had 4 Ks. Trejo finished the battle. Alliance led 6 to 0 heading into the final inning and withstood Sidney’s comeback.
Both Torres and Trejo had good swings in the opener, helping the Peltz Co take a 2 run lead. Ferguson had a strikeout in the bottom of the inning as Sidney went without a score. In the second, the Spartans added to their advantage. Doubles by Tee Johnson and Jensen made it 3 to 0. Two more Ks by Ferguson in the home half kept the shutout intact. Inning #3 had both clubs going scoreless. Alliance did get a third frame knock by Braden Myers but he left on the bags. After three innings of action, Alliance was ahead 3 to 0.
RBI swings by Torres, Jensen, and Trejo resulted in three more runs for the Preps in their last at bat. Down by 6, Sidney rallied in the last of the frame. Using a couple of walks, Spartan errors, and a few hits, Sidney closed to within one. A popout would end the rally and the game with the Peltz Co getting the victory 6 to 5.
