Two Hitter by Stull Carries Navy Team Past Valentine

Solid pitching by Carson Stull powered the Alliance Navy squad past Valentine 6 to 3 on Friday. The Spartan hurled all 7 innings and struck out 11 in getting the victory. With the win, the Peltz Co has an 18-18-1 record on the season. The contest was the opening game of a weekend tournament in Chadron. At the plate, the Navy pounded out 8 hits and were led by Jackson Smith who had 3. Stull helped his cause with 2 knocks.

Pitching ruled in the first 3 innings as no runs were scored. In the second, Stull had 2 k’s and a hit at the dish. Two more strikeouts by Stull in the third kept Valentine off the scoreboard. Both team’s offenses came alive in the fourth. Valentine used a pair of hits and error by Alliance to take a 2 to 0 lead. A double play turned by the Spartans ended the frame. The Peltz Co broke thru in the bottom of the fourth with a score. Smith doubled and later score on a passed ball. After four innings of action, the Navy club was down 2 to 1.

Two more Stull strikeouts in the top of the fifth kept Alliance close. The Spartans tied the contest at 2 in the home half. Hits by Israel Garcia and Smith knotted the battle at 2. Using a walk and a miscue by the Peltz Co, Valentine surged ahead 3 to 2 in the top of the sixth. Alliance answered back with 4 runs in their final at bat. Knocks by Stull, Logan Freiberger. and Teagan O’Gorman gave the Spartans a 4 to 3 advantage. The Peltz Co margin then went to 3 after a big 2 RBI hit by Smith. In the seventh, Stull recorded 2 more k’s as the Navy club went on for the 6 to 3 win.
