Navy Falls to Fort Collins 8 to 2

Torrington hosted a battle on Friday between the Alliance junior Navy squad and the Lobos of Fort Collins. The Spartans fell behind early and a late rally came up short in an 8 to 2 loss to the Rocky Mountain team. Four early tallies by the Lobos was too much to overcome for the Peltz Co squad who dropped to 10 and 13 on the year. Alliance was held to just 2 hits for the game. Taking the bump for the Spartans were starter Israel Garcia and relief hurlers Kyler Hamel and Eban Lore.

A hit by Spartan Teagan O’Gorman gave Alliance a spark in the top of the first inning. O’Gorman was stranded and momentum quickly went to Fort Collins. The Lobos scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take control. A couple of walks plus an RBI double and a passed ball made the score 2 to 0 in favor of Colorado after one inning of action. Alliance bats were silent in the second while the Lobos added to their lead with 2 more tallies. Garcia would record 2 k’s in the inning but two walks and a 2 run single gave Fort Collins a 4 to 0 lead.

Both clubs would go scoreless in the third. The Peltz Co also went down in order in the top of inning #4. Fort Collins extended its advantage with a 4 spot in the home half of the inning. The Lobos didn’t have a hit in the inning but used a pair of walks, a hit batter, a passed ball, a 2 run Alliance error, and a steal of home to surge ahead 8 to 0 after four innings of play. Frame five had both teams failing to score.

Two Peltz Co scores in their final at bat made things interesting. Garcia waked to begin the rally and later scored on an RBI groundout by Tanner Salcido. The inning continued with a hit by Spartan Reese Muhr. Two more walks loaded the bases for Alliance’s Jackson Devlin. The Spartan catcher also drew a walk as the Peltz Co got close at 8 to 2. Rocky Mountain ended the rally and the game with a strikeout and the final score read Lobos 8 Spartans 2
