Victories by Vergil Lift Lady Crusaders to Third Place Finish

On Thursday, the St. Agnes Lady Crusaders track squad hit the road to Scottsbluff for their last meet on the year. The Gering Invite was held in the Bluffs due to track problems and featured 11 schools. SA ended third overall in the seventh grade level with 60 points. Gering was the winner with 117 tallies. The 8th grade club scored 49 points which was good for fifth overall. Scottsbluff was first with 122 points.

Seventh graders Penn Vergil paced the Academy by taking gold in all four of her events. Vergil claimed first in the 800, high jump and triple jump. The team of Vergil, Alexis Shelmadine, Kale Hulquist, and Aubrey Dudden were the victors in the spring medley relay. Vergil’s triple jump leap of 33’4 was a new school record. Other gold medalists were: Quinn Robertson who won both the 100 and 200 hurdles, Dudden in the high jump, and Shelmadine in the 200. Shelmadine’s time of 27.7 was also a new school record in the 200 while her time of 1:01 in the 400 was another record.
