Saturday was another busy day for the Alliance Spuds baseball squad. Alliance took to the diamond for a pair of contests. In the opener, the opponent was WYCO. The Rippers were defeated by the Spuds 17 to 1 in a two frame affair. Alliance batted just once but put up some big numbers in registering the victory. Leo Hager had 2 of the four hits for the Spuds. On the bump was starter Luke Clarke and reliever Nikki Escamilla who each threw one inning. They combined to strike out three.
Inning #1 had Clarke striking out 2 and the Rippers went scoreless. In the home half, the scoreboard went crazy as the Spuds scored 17 times. Early walks by Tyce Johnson and Grady Mracek brought up Clarke whose 2 run double made it 2 to 0. A hit by Jack Freiberger was misplayed as the Alliance margin went to three. Hager was next and his first knock plated run #4. After a walk, an error by WYCO on a hit by Ridge Toedtli made it 5 to 0.
The scoring then continued with Landon Hickman reaching on another miscue by the Rippers. A walk to Jensen Freiberger loaded the bases for Escamilla who also walked as the Spuds went up 7 to 0. Alliance’s Jack Sautter was next and his hit by misplayed by WYCO resulting in run 8. The next scores came after a wild pitch and a passed ball. Johnson was next and he walked again to keep the pressure on the Rippers. Both hits by Mracek and Clarke were booted by WYCO as the Alliance margin went to 12. Doubles by Hager and Toedtli ensued, making it 16 to 0. The scoring closed with another error by the Rippers on hit by Jensen Freiberger and another run for the Spuds.
