Alliance Drops Tough One to Gering

Prep action in Rushville closed for Alliance on Saturday with a 7 to 6 loss to Gering. Three late scores got the Peltz Co to within one but Gering was able to stop the comeback. Alliance was led by 2 hits each by Dixon Bair and Jace Jensen. On the mound for the Spartans was starter Jensen and relief hurler Bair. The Preps had seven knocks in the contest.

Alliance went to bat first and scored once. Bair singled and came across after a double by Jensen. Esai Trejo had a first frame knock but didn’t score. An Alliance double play in the home half kept Gering out of the scoring column. Momentum then went to Gering in the second. The Peltz Co went scoreless while Gering plated 5. After 2 innings of action, the Spartans were down five to one.

Inning #3 had the Preps get close. Alliance scored twice to pull within 2. Hits by Bair, Roy Torres, and Jensen made it 5 to 2. A sac fly by Trejo then sliced the Peltz Co deficit to 2. In the last of the third, Gering countered with a 2 spot to increase their advantage to 7 to 3. Alliance would threaten in their last try. A two run double by AJ Garcia made it 7 to 5. With the bases full, Trejo was hit by a pitch for the Prep’s sixth tally. However, Gering was able to record the last 2 outs and get the win 7 to 6.
