Round 2 of the Chadron tournament had a tie contest between Alliance and Sheridan County. Five runs in their final at bat had the Spuds surge ahead by 1 but Regulators ended the contest with a score and the battle was called tied at 11. Luke Clarke started for Alliance and went 2 plus frames. Coming in for relief were hurlers Jon Luke and Jack Freiberger. Alliance ended with seven hits with Clarke leading the offense with two. The battle was played on Saturday.
Alliance scored one run each in their first three at bats. In the first, Tyce Johnson singled and scored on a wild pitch. A hit by Nikki Escamilla started the scoring in the second. He later scored run 2 on an RBI groundout by Johnson. In the third , the Spud advantage went to 3 on a hit by Jensen Freiberger. Meanwhile, Clarke tossed two scoreless frames in inning 1 and 2. Down 3, the Regulators came to life in the bottom of the third. Sheridan County plated 10 runs to go by 7. A pair of homers gave Gordon a nice margin. Alliance countered with 3 in the top of inning #4. An RBI hit by Clarke keyed the rally. Gordon failed to score in the home half and the contest went to the fifth with the Spuds tailing 10 to 6.
Leo Hager got the comeback started with a single in Alliance’s final at bat. It was followed by walks by Jensen Freiberger and Escamilla. Three wild pitches got Alliance within one at 10 to 9. The Spuds then finished with hits by Grady Mracek and Clarke to take the lead at 11 to 10. A walk and sacrifice fly by Gordon then ended the contest.
