Alliance battled Gering on Saturday in the Wood Bat Tournament in Chadron. Four runs in their last at bat led the Peltz Co over B&C Steel 7 to 3. It was the seventh win in a row for the Juniors. Tied at 3 in the last of the sixth, the Spartans tallied 4 scores in getting their second W on the day. Miguel Galvan started for Alliance and went 5 frames and recorded four strikeouts.The Juniors then got 2 perfect innings from reliever Jackson Devlin. Alliance finished with 8 hits and were led by 2 knocks each by Teagan O’Gorman and Logan Freiberger.
Gering hit first and didn’t score. In the last of the opener, the Peltz Co surged ahead with 3 tallies. A couple of Gering errors led to the scoring. Israel Garcia began things by reaching on a B&C error and advanced after a hit by O’Gorman. An RBI groundout by Galvan made it 1 to 0. The rally continued with Tanner Salcido getting on after another misplay by Gering. Next up was Casyn Rodriguez whose rbi single gave the Juniors run #2. The Peltz Co then got a steal of home for their last run. After one frame of play, the Spartans were up 3 to 0.
No runs crossed in the second. In the home half, the Juniors got hits from Devlin and Garcia but they were left on the bases. Gering got one in the top of the third. Salcido from his catcher’s spot picked off a B&C runner to limit the damage. Freiberger had a knock in the last of the frame. He was stranded. Frame #4 was a scoreless one for both clubs. In the fifth, Gering knotted the battle with a pair of runs. Alliance went 1-2-3 and action went to the sixth tied at 3.
Devlin had a clean top of the sixth and recorded a K to keep the game knotted. Alliance then retook the advantage with 4 in the bottom of the inning. Freiberger started the rally with a double and scored on a wild pitch. Devlin worked a walk and scored on a Gering error. Up by 2, the Spartans scored 2 more on hits by O’Gorman and Galvan plus a sacrifice fly by Salcido. In their last try, B&C Steel went down in silently. Final. Alliance 7. Gering 3
