AMS 7th Graders Begin Year with Win Over Gering

24 straight fourth quarter points powered the Alliance Middle School seventh grade club past Gering 24 to 14 on Saturday. The contest was played at Bulldog Stadium as AMS starts the season 1 and 0. Gering led 14 to 0 entering the final period before AMS made their comeback.

Defense was the name of the game in the first. Big tackles by Alliance’s Kiser Robertson, Brooks Sylvester, Charlie Herian, Jessiah Perez, and Colton Kelly kept G town off the board. After one quarter of action, the affair was tied at 0. A pass knock down by Madden Marsteller is how the second started as again the visitors were denied. With under 6 minutes left in the half, Gering scored on a 30 yard TD run to go ahead 8 to 0. AMS responded with a big series right before halftime. Passes from Herian to Sylvester got the hosts close. One pass went for 29 yards and the second covered 24 yards. Unfortunately, the half ended with a Gering pick in the end zone. The guests led 8 to 0 as the teams went to half.

Gering increased their advantage midway thru the third. A 66 yard TD pass at the 3:51 mark put the Dog deficit at 14 to 0. Marsteller tipped away the PAT attempt. Both squads had one more chance in the quarter but went scoreless. Heading to the fourth, AMS was down 14 to 0. The finale began with a nice 24 yard run by Alliance’s Landon Schroth as the hosts began their comeback. With 6:21 left, Herian connected again with Sylvester for a 25 TD strike. Herian scampered in for the extra point, making it 14 to 8. Alliance’s special teams and defense then set up the Dog’s final 2 tallies. Gering fumbled the ensuing kick return and Perez was there for the recovery. Perez returned the TO 26 yards, giving A town the ball on the three. Schroth then scored to knot the game at 14 with 5 minutes left. Herian ran in the extra point that made it 16 to 14. On the following possession, AMS got an interception from Alex Leisy who returned it 29 yards to the Gering 10 yard line. Herian then completed the comeback by scoring from the three yard line. The PAT was good on a pass from Herian to Sylvester. With 1:31 remaining in the contest, the hosts led 24 to 14. Gering was denied on their last drive with Zaiden Yardley recording a sack for Alliance.
